During these times of missing the Mouse, one thing that can really help revisit the magic is by recreating a food favorite at home.
In the fall of 2018, my daughters and I enjoyed an evening dining at ‘50’s Prime Time Cafe in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Have you been there? For those of you who haven’t, 50’s Prime Time is a fun blast from years gone past. From classic meals like fried chicken to laminate countertops, Prime Time really does deliver some good clean dining enjoyment.
Your server may be a cousin, uncle, or even Mama. At any point, you could be corrected (rather loudly) for offenses such as putting your elbows on the table or..gasp!…for neglecting to eat your vegetables! My girls did catch some flack for this from our “Cousin” and it was a hoot.
For our drinks that evening, we each selected
the famous PB&J Milkshake. As Familiar as the classic sandwich, this flavor as a shake was absolutely out of this world!
Fast forward a year and a half. Corona virus and a serious lack of something fun to do. led Thing 4 to wishing for one of these tasty treats.
We determined to recreate this milkshake at home. For this, we turned to the Disney Food Blog as a resource.
Disney Food Blog did not disappoint. The ingredients were few and the directions extremely simple.
For one milkshake you need the following:
2 cups of vanilla ice cream (we used the Great Value Vanilla Bean Ice Cream from Walmart. Fun fact: it was recognized by consumer reports as being one of the best vanilla ice creams around. At $2.97 for a half-gallon, this is information worth noting).
¼ cup of milk
2 Tbsp grape jelly (thanks Brenda!)
2 Tbsp creamy peanut butter
We combined all 4 ingredients into our magic bullet and blended away, stopping to scrape the sides a couple of times. We served the shake in a beautiful sundae cup we were gifted years ago and topped it with Reddi Whip and a maraschino cherry!
The verdict? It was a perfect blend of peanut butter and jelly. Not too overpowering while still being able to capture the flavors in every sip.
This shake retails for $9.00 at ‘50’s Prime time cafe. We recreated it at home for approximately $1.00!!! That’s right! It took a few short minutes to pull together. Thing 4 gives this recreation two enthusiastic thumbs up!
If you try this at home, send me a picture and tell me what you thought!
Yummy! We went to the restaurant. It was fun. Though we missed out on being spoon-fed.
